A small last-minute wedding ceremony on the Gold Coast

Sometimes weddings happen in a hurry. A visa interview is on the calendar. A grandparent's health is shifting. A travel window opened up. Or you've just decided another year of saving and planning isn't what you want. I run last-minute ceremonies regularly, and they're often the most emotional ones I do.

Honestly, last-minute planning can be a blessing. There's no time for the wedding industry to talk you into things you didn't want, no time for the run sheet to balloon. Just the actual wedding, with the actual people, in the actual place. Not a bad way to do it.

The legal minimum for a last-minute wedding

Australian law requires a Notice of Intended Marriage at least one calendar month before the wedding. So "last minute" in Australia means at least one month away. Less than a month? There's a shortening of time process, granted only in specific circumstances (medical, defence, employment, religious). Get in touch and I'll tell you whether your situation qualifies.

Between one and six months out, no special process. We just move quickly: NOIM signed in the first day or two, ceremony designed in a single session, paperwork ready well before the day. I've done weddings booked, planned, and married inside three weeks. Tight but doable.

A short timeline doesn't make a wedding less of a wedding. It just strips away the parts you wouldn't have remembered anyway.

What works best for short-notice ceremonies

The simpler formats fit a last-minute timeline best. A legals-only ceremony is the fastest and cleanest: just the legal essentials, two witnesses, ten minutes. An elopement with a few guests in a spot you love is also very doable on a tight timeline. A full custom ceremony is usually possible too, but the writing process is faster and we'll need to be quicker on revisions.

I cover the Gold Coast, Tweed Coast, Gold Coast Hinterland, Byron Bay, and Brisbane surrounds, so location flexibility tends to help. If your venue plan is tight or unconfirmed, I can suggest spots that don't need permits, work well with short notice, and look great on the day.

Get in touch fast

The first step for any last-minute wedding is just to send me a message with your date and rough situation. I'll let you know within a couple of hours whether I'm available, what's possible legally, and what the ceremony structure could look like. From there we can move as fast as you need.

Send me a message today

Date, rough location, the reason for the timeline (so I know if a shortening of time application might be needed). I'll come back within 2 hours during the day.

02

Lock in the paperwork

Within the first day or two we sign your Notice of Intended Marriage and sight your ID documents. Once that's done, the legal clock has started.

03

Quick design, then the day

One short planning chat to design the ceremony, a quick draft, you approve it, and we're ready. I'll bring the certificates and the words; you bring each other.

Last-minute wedding FAQs

One calendar month between lodging the Notice of Intended Marriage and the ceremony, in normal circumstances. For shorter timelines, you'd need to apply for a shortening of time, which is granted only in specific situations (medical, defence, employment, religious). Get in touch with your situation and I'll tell you whether it'd qualify.

Not because it's last-minute, but often because last-minute weddings naturally pick the simpler ceremony types. My packages are the same regardless of timeline. The savings come from the smaller scale (fewer guests, less venue, less of everything else).

Yes. I cover the Gold Coast, Tweed Coast, Gold Coast Hinterland, Byron Bay, and Brisbane surrounds. Travel within the Gold Coast and Tweed area is included in the packages; further afield is $1 per kilometre.

Send me a message immediately and explain why. If you qualify for a shortening of time, the application can sometimes be processed within a few days. If you don't qualify, the absolute earliest legal date is one month from when we sign your NOIM. I'll be honest with you about what's possible the moment I read your message.

Tight timeline? Send me your date.

Reply within 2 hours during the day. The sooner you message, the more options stay open.
