Coolangatta · Southern Beaches · Gold Coast
Coolangatta is where the Gold Coast quietens down. Three beaches in a row, Snapper Rocks at one end and Greenmount at the other, and a small-town feel that couples consistently underestimate until they get there.

Coolangatta — Coolly to anyone who lives here — is the southern bookend of the Gold Coast. It's a five-minute walk from the QLD-NSW border (literally, the line runs through Point Danger), and the whole feel is one notch quieter than Surfers, Burleigh or Broadbeach. Three beaches in walking distance: Rainbow Bay at the southern end, Greenmount in the middle, Kirra to the north. Each one suits a slightly different ceremony.
Most of my Coolly weddings happen at Rainbow Bay or Greenmount, where the sand is wide and the surf is gentler. Snapper Rocks (technically Rainbow Bay's southern point) is iconic but more dramatic — couples who want a serious headland shot often do their ceremony at Rainbow Bay then walk up to Snapper for photos. Kirra is the longest beach with the easiest car parking.
"Coolangatta weddings feel like the calm version of the Gold Coast. Guests fly into the airport ten minutes away and never need to leave the village."
Komune Resort sits right on Coolangatta Beach with a beachfront ceremony lawn and reception space. Snapper Rocks SA handles surf-club weddings at the iconic point. Salt Coolangatta is the boutique apartment-and-event option. Sands at Greenmount runs ceremonies on the lawn directly overlooking the beach.
For the broader picture, see my Gold Coast celebrant page. Just over the border you'll find my Casuarina and Kingscliff pages on the NSW side. A few minutes north, Currumbin has Elephant Rock and the surf club.

Depends on your guests and the photo you want. Rainbow Bay: calmest water, Snapper Rocks backdrop. Greenmount: wide sand, easy access. Kirra: longest beach, easiest parking, fewer crowds. Happy to walk through each at a site visit.
Yes. The City of Gold Coast manages beach ceremony permits for Coolly's beaches. Cheap, but lodge it a few weeks ahead. I'll send you the form.
Not at all for the wedding itself — Coolangatta is QLD and the ceremony is QLD-legal. The only thing to watch is daylight savings in summer when NSW is an hour ahead of QLD, which can confuse interstate guests. Note ceremony time in both timezones on invitations.
Absolutely. A legal-only ceremony on Greenmount or at the top of Snapper takes about ten minutes. From $550 plus the council permit.
Tell me which beach (or which venue) and your date. I'll come back with permit detail, timing for the light, and which beach is the right call for your guest count.
