Lennox Head Wedding Celebrant

Lennox Head is the surf town with the headland view, the freshwater lake right behind the dunes, and one of the most photographed clifftop ceremony spots on the east coast: Pat Morton Lookout.

Beach wedding ceremony at Lennox Head

Lennox Head sits ten minutes south of Byron Bay, where Seven Mile Beach starts and the famous Lennox Point breaks. It's smaller and quieter than Byron, with the same beach culture and a quarter of the tourists. For weddings, it offers two completely different settings within walking distance: clifftop ocean drama at Pat Morton, or sheltered tea-tree lake calm at Lake Ainsworth.

The town itself is in Ballina Shire (not Byron), so council permits go through Ballina Shire Council rather than Byron. Same process — apply, pay a small fee, wait two weeks — but worth knowing if you've been browsing Byron permit info and getting confused.

"Pat Morton at 4pm in autumn is one of those Australian wedding views that ends up on Pinterest. Yours could be it."

Where Lennox Head weddings happen

For the clifftop drama, Pat Morton Lookout is the spot. Grassy headland reserve, ocean to the horizon, often whales going past in season. Council permit only, no formal venue infrastructure, BYO everything. For something sheltered and child-friendly, Lake Ainsworth sits 100 metres behind the beach with tea-tree-stained freshwater and grassy lawns. The Sport and Recreation Centre there has bookable function space too.

For an indoor or wet-weather venue, the Lennox Head SLSC has a beachfront clubhouse with east-facing deck overlooking Seven Mile, and The Lennox Hotel handles larger receptions across multiple function spaces.

I travel down from the Tweed Coast — about 50 minutes — and a small travel fee applies for Lennox Head weddings. For couples wanting something tiny, a legal-only ceremony at Pat Morton is genuinely one of the most memorable elopement settings on the east coast. From $550.

Quick questions

Yes. Pat Morton and Seven Mile Beach are Ballina Shire Council ceremony reserves. Permits are inexpensive but take about two weeks. Pat Morton is non-exclusive, so you may share the lookout with other visitors at the time of the ceremony.

Pretty exposed — it's a clifftop. South-easterly afternoons can make veils and decorations a challenge. I always check forecasts a few days out and we can pivot to Lake Ainsworth (sheltered) or the surf club if conditions look rough.

About 50 minutes south from my base at Casuarina on the Tweed Coast. A small travel fee applies — usually $100 to $180 depending on the day. Quoted upfront.

Yes — one of the best on the east coast. A two-witness legal-only ceremony at Pat Morton followed by lunch at one of the cafés on Ballina Street is a perfectly contained, photogenic micro-wedding. From $550.
