Fingal Head · Dreamtime Beach · Tweed Coast
Fingal Head is the lighthouse-and-basalt-rocks end of the Tweed Coast. Small, dramatic, and one of the most beautiful spots in the country for a quiet ceremony.

Fingal Head is a village of about a thousand people sitting on a small peninsula at the mouth of the Tweed River. The lighthouse, the black basalt rocks (the "Giant's Causeway" formation), Dreamtime Beach and the view across to Cook Island make this stretch of coast some of the most photographed in northern NSW. And almost no one outside the Tweed knows it's here.
There aren't many commercial wedding venues in Fingal itself — that's the point. Most couples who choose Fingal want the intimate, raw, sand-and-basalt look, with their guests staying nearby in Kingscliff or Casuarina and driving over for the ceremony. The two main ceremony sites are Dreamtime Beach below the lighthouse, and Old Boat Harbour Park on the Tweed River side. Both are Tweed Shire Council park-hire ceremony locations.
"Fingal is where you go when you want the photos that no one else is going to have."
For dramatic ocean and lighthouse backdrops, Dreamtime Beach and the headland reserve below Fingal Head Lighthouse are unmatched. The Tweed Eco Cruises boat lands here with bridal parties of up to 30 guests if you want a memorable arrival. The basalt rock formations work as a natural altar setting.
For something river-side and shaded, Old Boat Harbour Park on the Tweed River side is calmer, with picnic shelters and easy parking. Better for older guests, less weather-exposed, but no ocean view.
Most Fingal weddings then move to a venue back in Kingscliff or Casuarina for the reception. Or do a legal-only ceremony here, just the two of you, two witnesses, no fuss. Couples flying in for an elopement love that combination — twenty minutes by the lighthouse and you're done. From $550.
Fingal itself only has council ceremony sites — most couples pair them with a nearby reception venue.
Yes. Both Dreamtime Beach and Old Boat Harbour Park are Tweed Shire Council park-hire ceremony sites. Permits are inexpensive and take around two weeks to come through. I'll send you the link and help you choose.
Yes, the headland is exposed — especially in the afternoon during winter and spring. I always check the wind forecast a few days out and we can pivot to Old Boat Harbour Park (which is sheltered) or even the lawn just behind the lighthouse if conditions look rough.
Most guests stay in Kingscliff or Casuarina, both 10 to 15 minutes away by car. There's also accommodation at Tweed Heads (just across the bridge) if you want something closer to the airport.
No. I live in Casuarina, fifteen minutes south. No travel fee for any wedding on the Tweed Coast.
Tell me the date and rough guest count. I'll come back with the spot, the permit, and a wet-weather plan.
