Brunswick Heads · Byron Shire
Brunswick Heads is the small fishing village ten minutes north of Byron Bay that everyone falls in love with. Heritage pub, restored picture house, beachfront reserves, and the same warmth Byron used to have.

Brunswick Heads is what couples want when they say "Byron, but quieter and more interesting." The town sits where the Brunswick River meets the ocean, with Torakina Beach on one side and a string of riverfront reserves on the other. You can walk the whole village in fifteen minutes and you'd still find a half-dozen places that would work for a ceremony.
The two anchor wedding venues are Hotel Brunswick, a beautifully-restored heritage pub with a Pavilion and beer garden, and Brunswick Picture House, the vintage timber theatre on Fingal Street. Both handle weddings beautifully — pub for the louder reception, picture house for the quirkier intimate ceremony.
"Brunswick is the village where the wedding feels like a long weekend rather than a single day. That's the magic of it."
For the classic outdoor ceremony, Torakina Beach (where the river meets the sea) and Banner Park (the central riverfront grass) are both available without a council permit — they're managed by Reflections Holidays on the basis of non-exclusive use. The Terrace Park further upriver is the same setup. Just don't expect total privacy.
For indoor or wet-weather options, the Brunswick Heads Memorial Hall is a deco-era community space with capacity up to 200 — flexible blank canvas. North Wall on the breakwall is the more dramatic option for couples who want big ocean energy.
I travel up from the Tweed Coast — about thirty minutes — and I do all the planning around the day, including the permits if needed. For couples wanting something tiny, my legal-only ceremony works perfectly at Torakina Beach. From $550.
The full Brunswick Heads cluster — pub, picture house, hall and the council-permitted foreshore reserves.

Torakina, Banner Park and The Terrace are managed by Reflections Holidays and don't require a paid permit, but use is non-exclusive — you'll share the space with weekend-walkers and picnickers. For exclusive use of a council reserve (like specific Byron Shire parks), a paid permit applies via Byron Shire Council.
Brunswick is quieter, smaller, and feels more village-like. The accommodation is more limited so guests often spread between Brunswick and nearby Byron or Mullumbimby. Byron itself has more accommodation but less small-town charm.
I'm based at Casuarina on the Tweed Coast, about thirty minutes north of Brunswick. A small travel fee applies for any Byron Shire wedding — usually $80 to $120 depending on the day. Quoted clearly upfront.
Yes. Two of you, two witnesses, on the sand at Torakina. Ten minutes total. From $550. Details on the legal-only ceremony page.
Send me the rough shape of your day. I'll come back with the venues that fit and the simplest way to handle permits.
